Where's my Grub?

So this is what happened...

I used to be on Windows XP, and then I installed RH9 on a partition. When XP died (no suprise really!) I started using Linux more, at which point the Grub menu worked perfectly.

I decided I'd better fix XP, so I reinstalled that, but now, it just boots straight into XP. There's no Grub menu.

I definetely haven't written over Linux, because I can get the files off it, but I don't know how to lauch it again.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

I suggest Red Hat 9 Booting into rescue mode and re-installing grub. IIRC, the command is grub-install.

Installing a bootloader
Multiboot with GRUB Mini-HOWTO
Linux+Win9x+Grub HOWTO
KNOPPIX Linux Live CD

A windows install "fixes" the mbr when it gets installed.

"I decided I'd better fix XP, so I reinstalled that, but now, it just boots straight into XP. There's no Grub menu. "

The bootloader is installed on the Master Boot Record of your boot disk. When you installed grub it placed the grub bootloader on the MBR. When you installed Windows it overwrote the MBR with the Windows bootloader. So you have to boot into RH9, log in as root and run:
grub-install
which will put the grub bootloader on the MBR.

So now you ask, "How do I boot into RH9 with Windows sitting on the MBR?" There are two ways.

If you made a boot floppy during the RH9 install then you can use that to boot RH9.

You can boot the RH9 install disk into rescue mode. Assuming that you installed RH9 on /dev/hda3 and it is an ext3 file system then you issue:
mkdir /geronimo
mount -t ext3 /dev/hda3 /geronimo
chroot /geronimo

Then issue:
grub-install

reboot
