what version of Linux lets you shrink the Windows partition to install OS.
I have installed several versions of linux but I cant remember now which one is the one that when you are installing it tells you that you have Windows Installed and lets you shrink the windows partition to create some space to install linux on it to keep all the files on the disk.
So uhmmmmmm any1 knows what Version of linux that is ? Little help reminding me please! any help would be appreciated. ( I think its either Suse 10 or Mandriva ) anyway, you guys are the experts! not me :P hehehe Thx a lot! |
I would suggest using the Gparted Livecd. That way you can shrink and partition however you want are your now stuck picking a distro just because it can do that.

thank you, Im just trying to remember which one was it cos I really like it ! I just don't want to star booting several installations expecting to see that option risking to loose the data in my disk lol; and I dont care much for live Cd's but thank you very much for trying to help me.
you would happen to know if suse, mandriva or debian have that option would ya? Thx again! |
Knoppix 5.0.1 may change your mind about LiveCD's. It has QTparted and the live DVD has Gparted.
I've used it many times to shrink NTFS partitions. |

PS: I seem to recall that the Ubuntu "alternate install" CD would do this as well--at least it did around version 5.10. |
The live version of PCLinuxOS has an icon on the desktop that lets you shrink an NTFS partition from Windows to install Linux.
