What to do after I install a program?

I installed the gtk-gnutella program. When I downloaded it, I put it in /home/Chris/Downloads. So when I installed, it made a folder in my Downloads directory. What should I do with this folder? I thought it would install it somewhere else on the HHD. Also, I make a shortcut to the program for my desktop.

you installed it? do you know just be you untarred it? it will create a durectory in the the dir you intar it in, but that's only the source code, not the program, when you compile it and run 'makr install' as root it install the program into the normal linux tree. once it's installed properly you can remove that directory IF you're not oging to want to remove it again, you still can but it's generalyl nicer to uninstall properly.

well, when you installed it it didn't make a folder in your download directory. it just didn't... it'll make that directory when you untar it which isn't installing...
