what port is qmail on?

All,

We've got a dedicated server and we've been able to receive emails off it for months now, but we've never been able to send outgoing mail (we've been using another smtp instead). I want to fix this problem as the smtp we're using wont be available to us anymore soon.

When we try to send outgoing mails using our dedicated server, we just get the message "host not found".

In order to fix this problem I need to know how to find out what port qmail is listening on, and how do I change it?

Thanks

I've done a little bit more digging, and I can confirm that there is something listening on port 25.

I just simply don't understand why it doesnt work

ok it seems its probable that our ISP blocks port 25 to all but its own mail servers.

how do I change the port that qmail listens on?

You have to modify the /service/qmail-smtpd/run script. see man tcpserver for details. But be advised that this won't do you any good unless you can configure your MUA to look for the SMTP server on a different port.

Also, in case you haven't done see, read Life with Qmail
