just guessing

I don't really know the answers to your questions, but from what little I know, RHEL 4 is a very stable distribution, and that's why it's good for running servers - the bugs have been worked out. But its development cycle is very long, so they cannot put new features into it easily. It is getting old. It is years behind some of the newer distros.

The latest version of Fedora Core would probably have the features you want, but is unsuitable for critical use like running a server because it has a very short development cycle. It therefore doesn't have all the bugs worked out, and is not as stable.

Obviously the questions you are asking requires a lot of research to find out. Good luck!

I would have thought EL4 (with latest updates) would support SAS controllers. Check the HP site - they appear to have drivers available.
Or go with EL5.

Can't help with clustering.

thanks for all.

i try RHEL 4 ES WHITHOUT UPDATE and it don't see P400 CONTROLLER. I HAVE TRY FLOPPY DC141B EXTERNAL HP USB DRIVE AND IT READ EXPLOSION OF DD FILE BUT DON'T LOAD DRIVER FOR P400 ( WITH RHEL 4 ES). HP SUPPORT SAY ME THAT HP FLOPPY DC141B READ AND LOAD DRIVER, BUT I VERIFY THE PROBLEM IS NOT A FLOPPY DRIVE BUT OPERATING SYSTEM BECAUSE I HAVE LOAD FOR TRY CENTOS4 OS WHEN READ FLOPPY ITLOAD CCISS DRIVER.

I THINK, BECAUSE, WHEN LAST WEEK I HAVE CALL HP SUPPORT AND I HAVE TALK WITH TWO PERSON, THEY SAY ME ONLY, USE HP DRIVE FLOPPY DC141B FOR RESOLUTION OF MY PROBLEM AND DON'T SAY ME USE RHEL 4 ES UPDATE X ?

THANK YOU VERY MUTCH
