What is the Checksum in a burnt cd?

Hi, hi. I'm trying to install a program of a cd, but the cd-rom runs into many problems and doesn't find files sometimes even though they are there. So, I checked the media from where I"m installing, the cd, and the result came out to be that the CD had probably been created with no Checksum...
What exactly does this mean?
Thanks for help.

This http://www.linuxiso.org/viewdoc.php/verifyiso.html gives some idea of using MD5sum on files.

This is part of it:

MD5 Sums are 32 byte character strings that are the result of running the MD5 sum program against a particular file.

I hope this helps!
