What is fastest Linux in vbox/qemu OR Which one do you use?
OK, alot of people here run distro's in virtuality; and so I was wondering, in their(your) experiences, what are some of the fastest booting/running distro's for a VM?
Are there any distro's specifically made for qemu/vbox, etc?
thanks
Host OS is best I think if you have low-resource/RAM WM, or high RAM, Fast processor.
From my experience Processor speed, etc is the most important thing.
Also, Guest OS is best with low-ram/low-resource distro's
Fastest I have seen in Qemu is DSL-4.4.10 HD install to a 200-250mb qemu-img with
swap. With kernel append "dma=on" added to menu.lst.
BrowserPuppy47 is also fast, and tinycore_2.0+ too.
Basically, for general browsing, etc, A distro that has all the printing, etc BS taken out
and any unnecessary services uninstalled or stopped is best for me.
Why not just use the suspend feature some virtualization supports? BTW, please don't show your impatience by crossposting your threads again. You've been here long enough to know it's not appreciated.
What is the suspend feature Unspawn?
Suspend what?
Using portable-qemu I got DSL hd-install down to 35 sec on a 1.8ghz AMD AthlonXP 2200+
with 768MB RAM using "dma=on" and about the same on Windows XP with 512mb RAM.
It lives in a 200mb partitioned qemu-img with hda1-dsl, hda2-swap.
That's without removing anything or seeing what services are running.
I wish there were a up-to-date distro that could do the same, but most take between
1.5-2min just to reach X.
Tied for 2nd fastest is tinycore_2.0/2.1rc2(with similar apps to DSL) and BrowserPuppy47 at about 1min10secs.
So, that's why I'm looking for someway to get the boot down to less than
35sec for tinycore/browserpuppy47, as they are more upto date than dsl-4.4.10
And, so you understand, not all distro's run in my portable-qemu(some debs/ubuntu's)
but it runs good and fast on windows and linux without kqemu.
