What happens if the first image in my lilo.config doesn't boot?

Hi.

If I have two images (both Linux kernels) in my lilo.conf, what happens if the first kernel image comes up and crashes? Is LILO smart enough to load by default the second image or do I need to do something extra somewhere.

The crux of the problem. I am a kernel developer (new at it as you can tell) and I want to ensure that my customers don't get screwed when they upgrade. They (the customers) never really see the linux side of the world and I just want to make sure that the LILO config file that I set up is correct.

So if I have two image lines and the first image doesn't work, will LILO boot up my second image?

Thanks.

I don't think LILO is that smart. In fact, I had that experience with my non-working 2.6 kernel, if it crashes through one image it can't backtrack. Not sure if you're looking for an answer on how to solve this, but either way I don't have one.

when lilo is given controll by the processor it loads the kernel into memory and passes controll to it. Once controll is passed, it can't be called back unless the kernel gives it back. Hence the near impossibility of what you ask.

Check this out, it should solve your prob.
