What does 'htmlview' do?
 

I've installed an updated Firefox, which involved just unzipping and moving the resultant folder (in my case, I chose /usr/local/bin/).

The command for the default icon that starts my chosen browser, is "htmlview". What does it do, and how can I change it so that it chooses my new Firefox instead of the old one?

htmlview is a script that chooses what web browser to open (distributed with redhat's products I believe). You have two choices. You can run the program gnome-default-applications-properties and change the browser or the path to the browser there, or you can just change the default icon's behavior to call the program you want. If you are using GNOME then the first way is probably the one you want.

Is 'htmlview' Redhat/Fedora specific? If so, I'll ditch it and enter the path manually. If it's pretty Linux standard then I should edit in the proper way. I'm using Xfce4.
