Redhat Enterprise Linux derivatives like CentOS are free for download. You are highly unlikely to get enterprise class distros free for download (some can be downloaded for free but you have to pay subscription fees to get updates), so your choice is very limited here. You may also take a look at Debian.

All of them.. if you want a Redhat clone and don't need support, like reddaz said, try CentOS. But don't let our opinions choose your distribution of choice, choose it yourself if that even means you downloading and testing out a few or dozen or a hundred or even all of them..
ive looked around on different distros. i found that solaris is just going downhill from a few reports from not making money. and some were not as good as others. and i found centos to stand on top and rule all free server distros. thankyou for you very professional help
Well lets clarify for the newbies.. Solaris isn't Linux and CentOS is a clone of Redhat. I wouldn't necessarily say its on top of all others but I'm sure most businesses that don't need support but want to use Redhat will go with CentOS.
i would like to know what OS, do big companies use on there serve?
i already know the FCC runs solaris ,and solaris just became open source
Define "big companies". As you may have guessed, almost all linux distros use their distro for everything they do. Gentoo uses gentoo servers, slackware uses slackware servers, debian uses debain servers, etc.
So the questions is what makes a company a big company?
