What's going on with Linux on Apple's Intel systems?

I'm thinking about buying one of those new 13 inch MacBooks sometime after they come out, but I can't find a Linux distribution designed for it. I read one article about Red Hat putting effort into Apple's Core Duo systems. Does anyone else know anything about their progress?

Some people have managed to boot Knoppix and Gentoo on the Intel Macs. There are many people trying to make Linux work on the Mactel, so I am sure many distros will be able to boot from the Mactel soon. I personally would not get a Mactel solely to run Linux until everything is well and truely tried and tested.

Well I don't plan on getting one just for Linux. It would just be an added benefit to run Linux on it.

So are these distros being based on x86 or ppc versions?

MacIntels are x86, so the distros are obviously x86 based. By the way some people managed to use Boot Camp to dual boot MacOS and Linux or even run MacOS, Windows and Linux.
