I stopped running Linux about a year and a half ago. I remember Mandrake Linux 9.2 was all the rage. And kernel 2.6 was in beta. I'm going to get back into the Linux groove... Has there been any big break throughs since I stopped using Linux that I should be aware of? Right now I'm building a computer, so I kind of want to know NOW so I can figure out what I need.
Let's see.. Michael Jackson was acquitted and Terry Schiavo finally died..
Bush is unfortunately still our president..
We are still at war for oil after our great invasion of Iraq cause they were the biggest threat cause their own missles can't even hit a target the size of Kuwait..
Korea is making nuclear weapons and we've done nothing about it..
Oh.. you wanted to know what's changed with Linux.. ermmm.. some updates and newer versions... that's about it, just like what all software goes thru in most cases, they get updated with better code..
OK smartass, if this is true........explain why gasoline is up OVER $2 a gallon--
why don't you keep your ignorant political garbage out of this forum!

Might be an idea to calm it down. Trickykid was being facetious, as was shown b his final paragraph.

Some people have some major issues if they can't take a sarcastic approach to a question..
And my comment on war for oil, just cause that's going on doesn't mean oil prices are going to drop, take an economics class to better understand. But if you want to discuss this further, feel free to email me.. my above statements were for joking purposes only, laugh a little, you might live longer..
What's changed in the past little while? Well, for starters, well, let's see... First the earth cooled. Then the dinosaurs came. But they got too big and fat, so they all died an turned into oil. And then the Arabs came, and they bought Mercedes-Benzes. And Prince Charles started wearing all of Lady Di's clothes. I couldn't believe it, he took her best summer dress out of the closet and.... oh, never mind.

Now for a serious answer. . .
Linux has gone and grown up! wine has come a long way as well. Google for "winetools" - a great tool for automating the configuration of your wine environment. I successfully installed Photoshop, Illustrator, Paint Shop Pro, M$ Office 2000, Topstyle, TextPad (although I've gotten to the point where I PREFER Kate), Netscape, WinZip, winrar, and M IE 6 under wine thanks to winetools. I'm going to be upgrading to Adobe Creative Suite 2 next week if our order comes in - THAT should be interesting. I wonder if activation will work under wine or if I'll have to call? Yeah, I'd say wine is solid now.
