Weird problems

Earlier this week I was having some problems booting up which you can see here: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...ing-up-624353/ but yesterday I got it fixed thanks to someone here.

Now I'm having some completely different problems. When I use firefox I can't use any form buttons (ex: if I type something into google the search button won't do anything, can't post on forums, etc.)

Also after I've opened firefox nothing else will work. I can't open a folder or any programs or anything.

If I don't open firefox though, I can use most stuff, but if I try to edit or delete a file or something, it tells me I don't have permission to access it or something.

Anybody know what could cause this?

What are the error messages?
are you sure you are editing stuff in your $HOME directory?

Well for example this is what happens when I try to open the program KolourPaint

---

DC communications error (KolourPaint)

There was an error setting up inter-process communications for KDE. The message returned by the system was:

Could not open network socket

Please check that the "dcopserver" program is running!

---

KolourPaint then opened a little while later, then immidiatly crashed. Some programs don't respond at all, error or otherwise. I'll have to reboot to get the error message when I try to delete/edit files for you, I can't open folders again at the moment.

I'm not 100% sure what you mean by editing stuff in my $HOME directory. I'm the only/administrive user on this computer, so I should have access to everything, if that's what it's about.

Well, when I rebooted I was pleasently surprised to find that my files were not all in read-only mode. I even successfully deleted something. I tried to open up firefox to test it out, but it had the same old problem. Then all my files were read-only again.

I'm using Opera at the moment, and when I opened it up this time, I got this:

---

Opera encountered a problem during plug-in setup.
Plug-ins will not work properly.
Check your installation.

Could not locate plug-in 'libnpp.so'.
This executable is included in the install package.

Searched directory:

/usr/lib/opera/9.25-20071214.6/

---

So yeah, what happens if I try to delete something is I get: Error while moving items to "/home/******/.Trash". You do not have permissions to write to this folder.

Same sort of thing if I try anything else with it.

$HOME is /home/<username>, In your previous thread you were using ubuntu so I assume that you use sudo. I would suggest running a fsck on the filesystem through the ubuntu livecd

Ahh, ok. Yes I am in my $HOME directory.

How do I run a fsck then?

Alright, I found out how to run a fsck. It found two problems which it apparently fixed, but nothing seems to have changed.

OK I tried it again, and it seems to be doing a lot more this time. This could be it.
