I read somewhere that I could build a web server from a 386/486 machine with Linux. Is that true? And if so, can someone give me the address of websites where I can research building a server with a 386 machine. (I tried yahoo but the sites listed were only for selling servers or talked about building servers with more modern hardware)

What are you talking about, you could use a 386 ?? Just depends on how much traffic he plans on having. A 386/486 could handle maybe like a personal page or something along the lines like that. Wouldn't handle something like this site or a big e-commerce site..
I knew someone who got their palm pilot running a web server once, so I am sure a 386 would do much better.
The kind of server I am talking about is a smaller ecommerce site that wouldnt expect to get more than a couple of thousand hits a year at most. My dad wants me to build him a website where he can sell his NASCAR collectables that he collects for a hobby. I am looking for a minimum requirements necessary for building a server from the ground up with minimal costs.
