Watching movies (saved on a linux machine) on my TV directly (without burnung)?

Hi all,

I use Debian etch (testing --> sarge is stable now)
Kernel 2.6.8-2
NVIDIA GEForce FX 5600 with 256 mb...

All my movies are stored on my linux machine (most in avi). I have a SVIDEO-cable to connect my graphic card to my TV.
Is there a package/prog (or how to do it) to watch movies on my TV directly from my linux machine?

Thx in advance
gsx

I use Xine. Some prefer MPlayer. For AVI files, you can also use aviplay.

You might also need to activate the tv out on your graphics card as well.

Although i don't know how this is done (never used nvidea drivers)

Hello!

With NVIDIA it is not that difficult to get TV-output working. You need to edit your Xorg.conf to enable TV-out, but at the moment I cannot remember exactly what to do. Try searching with google, and you will find lots of information on how to setup yor configuration. The same program you use to wathc movies from your monitor can also be used once you get the tv-out to work.

Hi,

first thx for your fast replies

I searched for the Xorg.conf file but I didnīt find it....I thought this file is in the /etc/ or /etc/X11/ (because of XF86config-4 file) folder, isnīt it?

Hello!

If you have a file named XF86config-4 that is the one you should edit.

Xorg uses Xorg.conf, and XFree86 ver 4.x uses XF86Config-4 as its config file, but the syntax is more or less the same for both. Another possibility is that XF86Config-4 is just a symlik to Xorg.
