Unhappy wanted avira free for linux, GOT centrify 2010! oh no

hello,

i like scanning my storage devices for malware. i thought i was downloading avira free av for linux because that's what it said on the webpage i was at, after installation was complete, i realized that i installed:

centrify 2010 suite

before going into a panic, i thought i should research this. i read repeatedly that centrify 2010 was a 'desirable' software, from numerous reputable sources, but i can't verify this because i can't even find it on my computer. maybe it includes avira av, but how would i know?

has anybody heard of this software? is it good? where is it on my computer? does it include avira av? if it doesn't include avira av, is it worth keeping? how can i get avira av?

could someone please give me assistance.
thanks.

Hi ejames82,

What site were you trying to download from? If I had to guess, you may have clicked on an ad for Centrify Express by accident receiving a different software package.

Centrify Express is software that joins UNIX, Linux and Mac systems to Active Directory, giving users the ability to log into a system using their Active Directory credentials or SSO using Kerberos (e.g. using PuTTY). If you want to learn more about Centrify Express check out the product site: http://www.centrify.com/express

If you want to use the software and have questions or want some training vids, check out the Centrify Express community site: http://community.centrify.com

If you want to uninstall the software you can remove using the included uninstall script:
/usr/share/centrifydc/bin/uninstall.sh

In case you are still worried about the reputability of the Centrify software you may want to check out reviews from other independent sites. Here are few:
http://www.workswithu.com/2010/07/23...s-vs-likewise/
http://davidmburke.com/2010/07/27/thoughts-on-centrify/
http://www.ghacks.net/2010/11/30/eas...indows-domain/
http://www.mebbi.net/2010/12/centrif...-easy-express/

Hope this helps,
Best regards,

Corey Williams - a Centrify product manager

cowillia,

well, it wasn't exactly what i was hoping for, which was avira av, but yes, much good is said about this software (centrify) and i appreciate the fact that you provide the command to uninstall. that makes you look very honest. you know as well as anybody that there are entities out there that want very much to keep their software on your computer.

i will check out all the info you have provided for me.
thank you.
