Wake on Lan doesn't work after Linux shutdown
Hello everyone.
I'm getting some trouble with Wake on Lan. The main question is: when I shutdown a PC through Windows, the WOL works well, but it doesn't happen when I shutdwon the same PC through Linux. It happens in all of my PCs here in the company. Does anybody know what could be happening? Thanks. |
Hi,
Since you haven't provided enough information then I suggest that you look at 'How to Ask Questions the Smart Way' so in the future your queries provide information that will aid us in diagnosis of the problem. Do you have identical equipment? What about error logs? Same GNU/Linux on all equipment? |
It is not going to acpi S5 for some reason or you have some issue as to what is shutdown is in linux. Does the lan lights go off in linux? See also S6/G3 powered off.

The NIC lights go off both in Linux and Windows. And the Switch light stays on in both cases too.
In wich ACPI state the halt command put the machine? And what about the poweroff and shutdown commands? |

I had a problem a while ago with one of the models of PC we use where I work. The networks cards supported wake-on-lan but they didn't get left in the desired state.
Log on to one of the machines as root and run Code:
$ ethtool -s eth0 wol g |
Thank you very much jefro and arizonagroovejet. The command that you both have posted solved my problem.

I have read the link. I provided the link to provide the means for future & present problems. You have read it? Glad to hear that the member has gotten some aid from other members. Which you did not provide other than to take me to task for wanting to provide the OP with potential help with the problem. By no way was my post slapping anyone around. Your thought and misinterpretation. Quote:
