LinuxQuestions.org - Wacom Tablet Quality

Greetings,

I am running Ubuntu Dapper, Beta 2. I've set my Graphire 4 up according to the documentation.

Now the tablet technically works, as I get pressure sensivity in The GIMP and Cinepaint, however my major problem is the quality, and I think it would be best illustrated with a comparison between the (technically working) Linux drivers, and the official Wacom drivers running on Windows.

At first it might look fine, but I'll explain: #1 shows the lack of pressure levels. It seems to jump from slightly faint to full opacity, and the straight strokes' size jitters, without much change to the actual size (this is no good for painting).
#2 shows the disintegration of accuracy when using small brush sizes. 1 px brushes make a horrible jittery mess, and is intermittent when writing small text (this is no good for inking).
#3 A rapid succession of strokes causes every other stroke to cease (missing strokes shown by black dashes). This seems to be caused by GIMP's slow history intake, as the stroke stops if I paint before the undo image has loaded (this is no good for painting and writing). Cinepaint is much faster, but has terrible quality :P
The circle shows a lag that occurs at the start of strokes, causing an odd angle at the start and end of rapid strokes.

Needless to explain, but: #1 Consistent pressure gradient.
#2 Smooth 1 px lines, consistent writing.
#3 Rapid strokes handled fine, showing that it's GIMP's efficiency, and not my computer being slow.

I would greatly appreciate any solutions or suggestions anyone may have. I've been trying to fix this problem for a year now, starting with a Volito, multiple distros and various settings.

I'm beginning to believe that this quality is what I'm supposed to be getting, and Linux users think that it's good quality because they have never used it with the official drivers. If this is the case, I hope I can get the message across to the developers that all the success stories are false. :D
