vsftp server, sftp vs ftp clients

I have a vsftp server on a CenOS box, configured to take anonymous logins with email passwords. Remote 'ftp' from linux machines, 'ws_ftp' from Windows machines all work fine to make connections. However, remote 'sftp' connection always got complains on "incorrect password". Any clue how could this happen?

Thanks in advance,

joe

I thought sftp was part of OpenSSH.
