Unhappy Vnc window hangs.

Hello i recently reinstalled my linux server (RedHat 7.2 - PIII 550, 320 MB, 10 GB quantum hd) and every time i run vnc the window comes up, i get all of my icons/menus/toolbars but about 10 seconds after it comes up my window hangs. The desktop is still there but when i move the mouse the only thing that moves it the little dot.

I am running on my home network and i am running at 10 megabit. My client pc is a (win98 - 1.3Ghz AMD thunderbird, 256 mb ddr ram, 20 gb IBM Deskstar HD).

I never had this problem with Redhat 70 or 71. I downloaded and reinstalled VNC from the site with no change.

Has anyone seen this before?

Out of curiosity, what window manager/desktop environment are you using for your VNC user? Are you using the same locally? Are you using a different user for VNC than you might have logged in locally?

X (FreeX86) and Gnome are what I am running on my server. (I edited the xstartup script to access gnome-session when I installed.)

What I mean is, when you login using VNC, are you also logged into the Linux machine locally with the same user account and the same window manager?

No, my linux box is set up to run without a keyboard/mouse/monitor. The only access to my linux box is telnet or vnc.
However when i do use a monitor and keyboard from one of my other machines i am running gnome and logging in as the same user. But when i login locally i don't use vnc

Any chance it was left logged in locally as the same user?

I used to have this same problem with an older version of VNC. I think to fix it, I setup a seperate user for VNC than my local account.
