VNC w/o PAM?

Anyone know if any version of VNC can be run without PAM?

I didn't think any version DID run with pam. They just run off a local user specific password file ~/.vnc/passwd in my experience.

Thank you for replying. Perhaps it is just the version I'm trying. I have TigerVNC v1.3 and whether I launch "vncserver", which naturally launches "vncpasswd", or "vncpasswd" directly I get the same error message

Code:

  vncpasswd
vncpasswd: error while loading shared libraries: libpam.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I'm certain it isn't being found because I don't have, nor want, <cringe> Pam on my system. I'll try an earlier version.

Ae there not official slack builds for VNC already available? Personally I always feel the need to say how utterly awful VNC is, and that you should use a decent solution like nomachine.org instead.

(And I think <cringe>ing about PAM is much more cringy that PAM itself...:))

I only rely on slackbuilds for things more complex than I care to do myself and VNC is extremely easy to deploy. I have to agree that at best it is kind of awful, but it has become a "necessary evil" to me probably just because I'm used to it. However thanks to you, that is about to change because nomachine looks great!

.....and I won't hold it against you for cringing at my cringe :P

Edit: UhOh....looks like a project for Slack.

Thanks mate
