Ok, I am trying to make "linux" work in VMware on my laptop. I use virtual space since its easier for me then partitioning. I have tried Slackware, Mandrake, and Redhat, the installations for them all worked but slackware's since I was confused, but when I booted up mandrake the screen was all messed up looked like kind of a tv that doesn't have cable, those fuzzy screens. When I booted up redhat, it just booted up fine but I cannot use any xserver. I have a error in my monitor file XF86Free I think its called, but that file doesn't exist on my computer. And I need to install vmware tools but i click it and nothing happens.... Can someone explain how to install one of these linux's and make them work.... :/
There is some documentation, I'll see if I can find it...
vmware tools is a virtualized floppy disk, that you can mount with the command
(most likely this will work.)
mount /floppy
and then go to the /floppy directory and see what is in there.
When you first go through there and click it, it should tell you EXACTLY what to do.
I don't have linux installed in VMware anymore I removed it and lost the cds, right know I am downloading Mandrake 9, before I tried Mandrake 8.2 and it didn't work...
Here is a link to a PDF (you'll need the free reader from adobe.com) that walks you through installing Mandrake 9 into vmware, and it does it from the .ISO file you download. (You don't have to burn it to CD.)
