VME libraries on new system MVME6100

Hi there!

I am currently working on an data acquisition program which formerly ran on a VME crate with: LynxOS 2.5.0 ,arch: PowerPC.
My current task is to get this program running on the new system, which is a Motorola MVME6100 crate with kernel: Linux 2.4.25-elinos-133, arch: ppc
There existed a library containing essential stuff to access the VME Bus, handling VME interrupts and VME Bus traps on that system, which the program uses (excessively).
The Problem is: I cannot compile the library on the new system because the source files are not available.
I have tried to simply copy the library and try to compile the program there, which ended up in loads of errors saying the architechture of the library differs from the system's.
Does anyone have any clue how I can get this one running WITHOUT rewriting the libraries myself (which I am far too unexperienced to do)?
Thanks in advance!

Christian

Is your linux distribution presently running on this crate? Does it see any of the other cards?

Seems to me that those libraries already have to be present or you couldn't even run linux on a VME box.

In any case visiting vmelinux.org might be a good place to start, though that project does not seem to have a great deal of life in it.

It is running, but because the cards have not yet been put into the new crate I cannot tell whether they can be seen or not.
The problem is: even if the libraries already exist (which I should assume after your post), I have absolutely no idea where they are and how to use them...

Well if your single board computer is running with no other cards in the system, then it doesn't necessarily see the VME bus since it doesn't need it for anything. You might want to google a bit; I did and came up with some info, though it doesn't look like putting linux on VME is getting a lot of support. Kind of doesn't surprise me; until the 2.6 kernel, Linux did not do a good job at all with real time stuff. Kernel 2.6 has substantially improved that though.

How does your SBC implement the VME interface? If it is over a local PCI, then there is a driver that will work for you. If not, it becomes problematic. You might want to check your dmesg to see if the VME interface hardware is even being detected.
