Viewing KDE on a network machine (Remote Desktop)

I have a slackware machine at home without a monitor. I love bash console but sometimes I find myself needing a GUI. Despite my friends negative comments, I was perfectly happy with VNC'ing using binaries found at until someone exploited the server thanks to a rediculous bug in the program (see my thread in Security). Seems my friends were right all along.

I know about using PuTTY with X11 forwarding but I am not interested in installing cygwin on my Windows machine. I'm looking for a better, cleaner solution. I know about Hummingbird Exceed but theres no way I am paying for it.

Is there any other way to view X remotely?

Probably the best solution is installing FreeNx on the server side and NoMachines NxClient on the client side. It runs over a ssh connection. It is as fast as anything else out there, and it is secure.

FreeNx is available for most distros and see this link for the NoMachine client.

Hope this helps.
