video performance

i installed RH 9 on a via epia motherboard with Trident Blade 3D integrated.
the mplayer plays avi movie which is quiet slow. I tried to improve the video performance by allocating all 8 MB memory to the /proc/mtrr
but it won't allow me to modify, in mtrr, it shows only 4 MB is used.
what other options i have to enhance the video performance?
thanks

my old laptop (toshiba 1805) had the same graphics card. im sorry to say, up to this date, there is no 3d graphics support for the trident blade chipsets, so it may not show the correct video memory.

also, have you tried 'hdparm' yet? type in "hdparm -c 1 -d 1 -k 1 /dev/hda" in an xterm or konsole. this should increase the read/write speed on your hard drive. if the video if on a cd, do "hdparm -c 1 -d 1 -k 1 /dev/hdc". hdc is usually the cd-rom drive.

I tried that command, but it didn't change much.
