Video from Camera to Avidemux

I have a video camera that interfaces with firewire. In Windows I can use software like Premiere to directly import and edit my videos from the camera. In Linux, I've installed Avidemux, but I don't know where to start to begin downloading the videos from my camera.

Can someone give be a pointer in the right direction?

Have you checked out kino I don't think that avidemux works on the files you get from them cameras.

If you're looking for Premiere like programs, you might also want to check out Cinelerra or Kdenlive.

Yep, I decided to try out Kino. It seems to work ... after I actually installed my firewire card!

I found out how to install my ieee1394 drivers, and voila! It works.

Thanks.
