vector linux soho 3.2 installation troubles
 

hey. i downloaded the vector soho 3.2 iso and burned it on cd.

i successfully managed to boot from cd and started the installation. it checked the the files for errors and everything and i managed to get to the actual installation process.

press enter, wait a couple of secs as it tries to install and suddenly everything stops and i get the message

"bzip2: data integrity error when decompressing... it is possible that the compressed file(s) have become corrupted. you can use the -tvv option to test integrity of such files. you can use the bzip2recover program to attempt to recover data from undamaged sections of corrupted files. /usr/bin/linux: cannot create /mnt/partition/etc/fstab: directory non-existent"

i have no idea why. the iso burned alright and when it did the file error checking before the installation, everything was perfect.

any clues?

Did you check the md4sums yourself after you burned the iso?

This is better than the internal check you refer to...sounds like a bad iso to me at first glance, doing an md5 check will make sure.

I agree with the previous post. The best way to check integrity is the next version of md4sum - md5sum ;)

checked the md5 thingie and it's all good.

has anyone ever tried installing vector?

Yes. I've installed 3.2 SOHO on 2 machines. No problem. Have you checked that your cd is clean and free of scratches etc? Can you try it on another machine?

It's sounds like the ISO image didnt burn correctly, maybe you should try using a slower speed... Also I recommend using Vector 3.2 and then downloading and installing KDE 3.1.1 seperate, if you are looking for a more stable machine... I my self have had many troubles using SoHo... I have found it to also be cluttered with lots of unnessary software that most people generally dont use... But of course thats just my opinion? Good Luck!
