/usr/share/locale

I was wondering what is stored in /usr/share/locale/

I see like two letter directories it seems more basic???

Each directory in /usr/share/locale contains program messages in a particular language. Programs that are written to support multiple languages store their messages in several different directories in /usr/share/locale. es is Spanish. ja is Japanese. And so forth.
