Try it with just the one stick - I'm clutching at straws here, but it's what I'd do next. Why it only fails under X is a worry, but humour me and try it.

I've removed one stick, without any luck. I could also remove the other stick (and put back stick1) but I don't think it will help. I've edited my previous post at the same time you posted, please read it.
I'm now going to reconfigure my default user and test after every change

Yes! Problem solved!!

When copying I noticed an alias-script I wrote that was in ~/bin. I called it "find" and all it did was execute find and use grep to filter the permission denied messages.
Code:
find $1 2>&1 | grep -v "Toegang"
(In dutch you'll get "Toegang geweigerd")
After renaming this file everything worked like a charm and I'm happy again. I feel a bit stupid right now, but it's good to have the solution.
