users and groups

Hello all,

I would like to write in /var/www with my user.

I've added the user manou to the group www-data: adduser manou www-data
Then I've changed the permision to the directory to allow rwx to the group users.

But when I want to copy something there, edit, create,... whatever with the user manou I can't because I don't have permission.

Any help to understand that, please ?¿

Thanks
·_· manou

Did you logout and back in? You will need to for the new group to take effect.

In some cases you can just source your .bashrc or .bash_profile as well for the changes to take affect.

Do an id on your own username to see what groups you belong to.

user@host ~:$ source .bash_profile
user@host ~:$ id
