user shows up as a number in ps aux

Hello,

Weird occurance.. I made a new user, and the users's name is malka and I did a ps aux and it looks like this:

nobody 8366 0.0 0.0 4472 1008 ? S 22:59 0:00 /usr/local/directadmin/directadmin d
root 8455 0.0 0.2 6904 2212 ? S 23:07 0:00 sshd: malka [priv]
504 8457 0.0 0.2 6920 2424 ? S 23:07 0:00 sshd: malka@pts/3
504 8458 0.0 0.1 5128 1340 pts/3 S 23:07 0:00 -bash

I am connected to the box remotely but the username shows up as a number. is this a sign of an incorrect user creation or something?

I know each user also has a numeric id given to them.. but all the other users have their name showing:

s4r 8274 0.0 0.2 6920 2424 ? S 22:54 0:00 sshd: s4r@pts/1
s4r 8275 0.0 0.1 5136 1360 pts/1 S 22:54 0:00 -bash

any ideas? Thanks

Does /etc/passwd have the correct information in it? I usually only see this with usernames more than 8 characters in length....

hahah you caught me in a lie on that one :P

the username was actually jigglypuff. I didnt pick it of course, I am hosting for someone and thats the name they wanted.. and it just felt weird posting about that name. heh i must be shallow :P

so 10 letters. Guess that means its normal and I shouldnt panic?

/etc/passwd looks fine

hahah i think thats pretty funny :P

thanks

Yep, that's the normal consequence. On one of my machines, my username is 9 chars so everything I do is "1014"
