User/Group Management

Can someone tell me the BASH command to ADD a user to another group, rather than changing their primary membership altogether?

RE: User/Group management

the 'usermod' command should do the trick!

usermod -G <groupname> <username to modify>

Will add the user to the <groupname> you specify
Do a 'man usermod' for more options.

Hmm...reminds me of listening to the phone companies menu while on hold. "For more options press #, otherwise hold for another hour"

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the tip. I just wanted to double check that '-G' will add the user to the group, and not change him out of the current group membership? Is it the 'usermod -g' option that will _change_ membership?

RE: User/Group management

Correct, using the 'moduser -g <groupname or number>' will change the primary group the user is in.
