USB HDD Format to use with M$ and Linux

Hi,

I have just baught a nice large hdd to use as a usb storage. I have some files that are over 8 gig on my linux box but I need to put them on the usb drive so my Win Xp can use them.

I know fat32 can only handle 4g size files and if I formated it to NTFS then my linux box didnt want to write to it.

Is there a new format that will allow > 4g on both systems or should I try to get my Mandrake 10 to write NTFS?

Thanks guys and have a good weekend.
Regards
Danny

The only way your going to get NTFS write support (thanks to MS's unwillingness to tell anyone how there file system works) under linux is by using Captive. I'd recommend giving that a try and see if it works for you. Otherwise the only other choice you have is FAT32 as Windows is incompatible with the Linux file systems.

I haven't tried it but http://uranus.it.swin.edu.au/~jn/linux/ext2ifs.htm claims to give Windows the ability to read linux ext2 filesystems.

I believe some commercial partition managers may also allow Windows to access linux filesystems.
