Upgrading hard drive with Linux partitions on.

Hello again.

Here the plan:-

I have 2 HD's at the moment, one 40 GB with windoze (30 GB) and fat 32 (10GB), the second is a clunky old 10GB which has all my linux stuff on. I want to replace this drive , but before doing so copy all the data as it to the new HD when I get it, as Linux deserves better than what its go on my computer.

Any ideas about how to do it?

You can

]#tar -cvzf wholesystembackup.tar.gz /*
(using the program "tar" make a backup called "whole...." and save everything under "/"

or if you just want your user files...
make backups of /etc, /home, /root, /user

and that should be fine.

do a data dump ( dd if=/dev/hdOLD of=/dev/hdNEW)of each partition to the newly partitioned disc, and then you'll have to reconfigure your bootloader and MBR if it resides on the 10gb disc (and your taking it out of the system).
