my computer have 2 OS, win xp and linux 7.3., now i want to update the linux to 8.0, but however, i don't know how to do, especially in the part of hard disk partition, i had already made it when installed linux7.3, but now i have no idea how to figure it out... can anyone help me?
linux 7.3 doesn't exist, presuambly you mean redhat 7.3? in which case the 8.0 installer can easily handle upgrades no problem, it should take you through it just fine.
Also if you are having problems you can always just back up important stuff, and repartition your Linux section only, and install 8.0 fresh. This is what I choose to do.
Well, the best thing is to start the Redhat cd. Then when you get to partion use disk druid. While in Disk druid you will see your Windows partition, and your current linux partitions. Do not touch the windows partition. But instead delete all Linux partitions, and recreate them. You will need a /boot partition, probably 10-100MB, ohh this should also be ext3, or ext2 depending on your preference. You will need a Swap, which should be double your memory. You do not choose a file system type for this, there is a predefined setting for swap. Most importantly you need / this is where everything installed. So to recap you need 3 partitions, ext3 for / and /boot. If you have any more questions let me know.
