up2date

Is it safe to delete the .hdr files that up2date creates in the /var/spool/up2date directory? Unfortunately I did not create a bigger /var partition. Up2date is using it all up. Thanks. :newbie:

generally it is not a good idea to delete things

You will surely need to increase the space available in /var

if you have space available somewhere else there is a solution that would make most admins cringe

in this example i am using /usr you could put it anywhere you have space

mv /var/spool/* /usr/var/spool/

ln -s /usr/var/spool /var/spool

True, I guess I could move the up2date directory elsewhere and create a symbolic link to it. What exactly are the files anyway? Are they some kind of logs? Not sure, but it seems like it created .hdr files for the packages I did not choose to upgrade. Thanks David.
