Hi there,

I have a wine-0.9.12.tar.gz2 file
and I try to unpack it and install it.
I try all the combinations of tar -xyz!
but nothing does the trick. I get an error
(hundreds actually) .....

I have not heard of a gz2 file. gz, yes. bz2, yes. gz2, no.

tar.gz files are typically uncompressed like this:
tar.bz2 files like this:
A hyphen in front of the options is optional. You can use either tar zxvf filename or tar -zxvf filename. Both are equivalent. The "f" needs to be the last option, so it associates with the filename parameter.

Hey friend,
a) I feel quite fool: I meant .tar.bz2
b) My problem persist even when I execute as 'root'
c) Problem solved by another guru, he adviced not to
execute commands in FAT partitions (symb. links).
It took me the whole night to sort this out ...
That's how it is to be a migrating newbie (
