Hi all,
Just a quick question about modules. Is there anyway to stop the loading of a particular module at startup? My computer loads floppy.ko and ohci1394 at startup but since I don't have a floppy drive or a firewire drive, they fail and give a FATAL error message. I was wondering how I could stop these modules from being loaded.

pre-remove sound-slot-0 /bin/aumix-minimal -f /etc/.aumixrc -S >/dev/null 2>&1 || :
# Note: for use under 2.6, changes must also be made to modprobe.conf!
I had looked at this file before but don't understand what it's got to do with startup. Should I just comment out the line with ohci1394?

JZL240I-U, I can read man chkconfig but the command it self doesn't run. I get:
# chkconfig
bash: chkconfig: command not found
Yeah, it's not available for Red Hat. I haven't had to deal with module configuration files in quite some time. 2.4 kernels relied on /etc/modules.conf for modules configuration. 2.6 kernels switched to /etc/modprobe.conf. You may be able to just comment the relevant entries and run update-modules. In addition, you may have a file called /etc/modules that contains modules to load at startup.

Oops, sorry, I use SuSE, so maybe RH / F doesn't have it. Did you search their site? It is a really easy to use tool, you can name the service, action (on, off, restart) and define for wich runlevel(s)...
