unmounting cdrom / I already mounted my cd rom rpm problems

1 I already mounted my cdrom (adding dev/hdc /mnt/cdrom iso 9660 user, noauto 0 0 to /etc/fstab ) but i can only get it mounted as root (with mount /dev/cdrom /cdrom as i saw somewhere ) and afterwards i can't get it unmounted because it tells me : command not found. I tried also right click on the cdrom icon and unmount it but i get :
Quote:
could not unmount device the reported error was : unmount : /cdrom is not in the fstab ( and you are not root )
. any hints

2 I tried to install rpmfind wich i downloaded and i got this message :
Quote:
cannot write to /usr/rpm/sources
i also went to /usr and didn't find rpm directory .should i create one ?

PS i'm trying to install rpm packages on Slackware because they seemed easier than Tar ones , but i find lots of libraries needed in tar format , and haven't managed to install any till now , am i f#cked or am i ?

users can only unmount drives specifed in fstab, so that's what the probelm is there. why do you mount the drive at /cdrom when you've listed it as /mnt/cdrom in fstab??? also i presume you DON'T have the space between ISO and 9660. iso960 is the standard cdrom format. if there is a space there, then that'll explain why it's not working.

why the need to use rpms? just stick with tars on slackware, it's a damn site easier further dwon the road. may as well make that directory tho, not that i've any idea what it's trying to do.

If you really need to install an rpm in slack do "rpm2tgz whatever.rpm" first to convert the rpm to a slack .tgz package, then install it with "installpkg whatever.tgz". But your better off downloading the source and compiling it........(use the source luke....er....jamaso......)

The command is umount not unmount
Also try entering cdrom in fstab as follow
/dev/hdc /mnt/cdrom auto user,ro,noauto 0 0

for mounting you could either do
mount /dev/hdc or mount cdrom
I prefer just to use mount /dev/hdc since I know that will rarely change
