Unable to view cd files
 

i was using RH8 and was trying to record files to a cd (my CDRW is LG 52x32x52x). I try using KonCD to save those files, e.g. *.rpm, *.tar. when I click the start button the recording starts and before it was done an error message appears... after that the files i was about to record no longer exists in its directory and the cd disk were no longer viewable and usable... it was a backup cd disk... i cannot open it anymore either mounted... what should be the problem?

hmm... well the cd being unusable is understandable, but the part where the source files are no longer there is not. i tried using koncd once and it is not a very good program at all. try looking into installing either xcdroast, gnome-toaster, or e-roaster. i'm using xcdroast right now. there's the xcdroast package as well as 4 cdrtools packages, if i remember correctly. after you install xcdroast, you'll need to run it as root first. use these commands:

1. su
<enter root password>
2. xcdroast

a little pop up will appear. make sure you choose activate non-root user.
then click the set up button and:

1. check that it sees your burner
2. configure your burner options like read/write speed. actually, xcdroast does a great job of actually guessing it. for instance if i said that my burner was 4 times write speed, and i put in a cdr and proceed to burn xcdroast will figure out that i can burn a cdr at 8x's speed and burn it at that speed.
3. set up your image directory. use a directory that's writeable to everyone. i use /tmp myself.
5. save your configuration.

exit out of xcdroast and exit out of su by using the command, exit

run it as your user and set up a configuration file. basically click the set up button again. and just save configuration. all it needs for your regular user is a user config file.

hopefully your burner's okay though. mandy had a problem with lg cdroms/cdrws with installation where it killed the lg drives. i hope that hasn't happened to you though.
