but not showing ,, saying server cant be reached,,,
i need to make this working ,,, appreciate ur help
Are you actually using the DNS servers IP addresses in your /etc/resolv.conf?
Do i need to ? Doesnt it automatically resolves the dns name server in /etc/resolv.conf.. i guess thts the beauty of dns tht we dnt need to touch /etc/resolv.conf...
which means my entries will be somewhat like tht on my server,,
nameserver 202.56.16.5 <---- DNS IP
search server.redhat.com
is tht right?
Yes
About the search line:
your dns is only private I guess? (202.56.16.5 doesnt look like private space, prefer 192.168.x.x)
or are you the admin of redhat.com? Hello then ! =)
check
man resolv.conf
to be sure of the following (it's a long time since I didn't play the DNS admin)
Imagine you are on machine1.domain.com
If you do
ping machine2
it will first try to do a ping machine2.<domain.com>
if the dns resolution doesn't work, it will try
machine2.server.redhat.com and then
machine2.redhat.com
If you are authoritive (hum not sure this is english) of redhat.com it will answer.
Otherwise, it will go to redhat.com dns server! <-- not exactly true but that's the idea..
