unable to access desktop only blank screen with mouse

running REDHAT AS 4 , i am unable to access desktop after loging as root , it shows only blank screen with mouse pointer over it, eariler i could log n access desktop easly as root. but now i can access desktop logging other then root user. i m using gnome as display manager.

help me out.

Don't run GNOME as root...

learn to make use of tools like sudo and
gksu

. There is really no point in being root all the time, because
one day you'll make a fatal mistake and your system is lost...
