Udev mounts ext3 internal HD partitions as read only

Hello Linux forum,

Udev mounts my ext3 internal hard drive partitions as read only and I would like udev to mount them as read/write in Dolphin on my desktop computer. I do not want to use fstab, I would rather udev (or mdev) do the mounting.

I'm running KDE 4.8.5 and a late version of Gentoo using the default use flags and using genkernel for the boot process.

Udev mounts everything else as read/write such as all of my USB hard drives (ext3 and ntfs) and all of my ntfs HD internal partitions.

I have searched and searched and searched for an answer with no avail. Only my ext3 internal HD partitions are effected. Is there a udev rule out there that will solve my problem?

Thank you very much for any help you may give.

All the best,
Roy

I stand corrected. I finally found out that this is normal behaviour for Dolphin. Linux Mint Gnome does not allow it and Mandriva 2011 KDE does not allow it and I'm sure any other Linux distribution doesn not allow it either.

All the best,
Roy

Curious as to why you don't want to use fstab, which is quite happy to mount internal ext3/4 partitions read/write?

I guess I thought fstab was a little antiquated compared to the more recent ways of mounting using hal and udev and mdev. Besides, I wasn't sure how nicely fstab and udev would play together.

Thanks for the comment,
Roy
