Ubuntu not accessing my system

Hello. Great site. New member. My problem is I have a Dell laptop with Windows 8 Also have windows security as well as Kaspersky Pure 3.0.

I attempted to put Ubuntu 12.04 with a CD as well as downloading from the Ubuntu website. Nothing shows up. I don't get it. Any help would be appreciated.

That's what I would call a problem, too.

HOW exactly did you do it, or try to do?
Usually, you'd download the Ubuntu Live/Install media as an ISO file, and burn a CD or DVD from that ISO (it's also possible to create a bootable USB pen drive from the ISO, but there are additional tripwires about this). Then you boot your PC off the newly created disc.
Ubuntu should start as a live system without touching the system on your computer at that stage. You can play around with the system that way and try it out as much as you like.
There should be an icon on the Ubuntu desktop that starts installing the system to your hard disk.

However, if there's no free (unpartitioned) space left on your hard disk, I'm not sure what the installer can do. It would have to shrink one of the Windows partitions to make room for a Linux partition. About 10GB is the minimum I'd recommend. I suppose there's a tool in Windows that can resize partitions - if so, use that one, it'll deal best with NTFS partitions.

There may be another malevolence: Many recent PCs have "Secure Boot", a feature that is supposed to make sure only certified systems can be booted on them at all. If that is the case with your PC, you'll have to disable Secure Boot in the BIOS setting to allow Linux to boot.

Anyway, in order to purposefully help you, we need more detailed information about what your problem actually is.

As you see I used a Ubuntu disc. It seems the secure boot theory may be a solution. I'll try that. Thanks.

Checked BIOS settings. No secure boot. System won't recognize Ubuntu 12.04 disc.

indeed, that was obvious from your post. But I deliberately asked for details.
  • Is your system configured to look for a bootable CD at all? Does it boot from the Windows CD/DVD when you pop it into the drive and restart the computer?
  • Is the CD you created really bootable? Can you check it on a different PC?
  • You didn't simply create a new data CD and put the ISO file on it, did you?
