What command are you running? I'll suspect you are attempting to mount an audio CD, but since they lack a valid file system, the mount operation is unnecessary. In contrast, if you are dealing with a data CD, you would have to mount it. Lastly, if you put a blank CD into the drive, there would be nothing to be recognized. -- J.W.

No CD of any kind is reconized by this drive since I installed Ubuntu.
when I try to burn a CD using k3b or nautilus I get a no media result.

#mount /dev/hdc /media/Cdrom0
with any Data CD burned or pressed
Returns
mount: No medium found

I have no problems with any DVD, burning or mounting all DVD's work great

What kernel are you running? If it's 2.4.x, you may need to manually add the "append hdc=ide-scsi" boot option, or perhaps to manually mopdprobe the ide-scsi module

Linux noms1 2.6.10-5-686 #1 Fri Sep 23 14:18:02 UTC 2005 i686 GNU/Linux

mopdprobe???

I did read something about treating the CD as a scsi drive but what I saw did not make any sense to me so I did not do it.

FYI: I have only been using linux for about 2 months now.
but I have a lot of other forgotten system experience inluding CPM, unix and linux

so be patient with me please

Thank you
