Ubuntu 8.04 is not detecting internal Modem
 

I installed ubuntu 8.10 a few days ago; but i did not able to connect with dial up internet, because the system could not find the Modem(Generic 56k data fax internal modem).I visited Linux forum several times and i took many prescriptions and found to my surprise that the modem was no longer detected.Someone told me ubuntu 8.04 can find Modem,accordingly i installed 8.04 but still it is not detecting.Anyone if know what is the procedure to install driver or something pl.send message.
