two mice & mounting NTFS

Okay... I need to do two things to make me REALLY REALLY happy...

1. Mount an NTFS partition
2. Get both mice working in X

Frist - My hard drive with the NTFS partition is connected through a Promise Ultra 100 ATA controller (on mobo). From what I understand, it should be hde1 (my primary partition on my first hard drive). The problem is, is that currently, the kernel doesn't have support for this. I need to figure out how to recompile the kernel with the support. Oh yes, I am aware that only Read-only may be available. That's fine by me. I'm on a frsh Redhat 7.1 install, running both Gnome and KDE depending on how I feel <http://forums.anandtech.com/i/expres...small-wink.gif>
Second (but would like done first) - I need to edit my XF86Config file to utilize both mice. I have read the man pages, but whatever app created my XF86Config file is using obsolete commands, so I'm not sure on how and what to change. Currently, my "Pointer" section (which should now be "InputDevices") reads as follows:

Section "Pointer"
Protocol "IMPS/2"
Device. "/dev/mouse"

Any help is appreciated. Oh yes, the mouse currently working is a Microsoft Optical Trackball (connnected via USB). My other mouse is a Logitech connected via PS/2. I can get them working independently (signaling that there are working drivers). Thanks

Alright, I can help you with the NTFS mounting problem. There are two ways to go about making the harddrives on the Promise card visible. One is to use one of the newer kernels and compile in the promise card support. The other is pass in the memory address's of your promise card as kernel parameters and it will look at those address's for the IDE channels. I posted a message on this forum before with instructions on how to find the memory address and the syntax of the kernel parameters.

I recommend going the route of using a newer kernel (I think any 2.4 will do) and compiling in support for the promise cards. Also, you are probably going to need to recompile the kernel to add NTFS support anyway. Whatever you do, DON'T add write support for NTFS unless you have experience with it and know how to fix your partition when it gets screwed up.
