Turning off printer causes mouse to lockup temporarily

Slack10, 2.6.10 Kernel, KDE

What should I look for to fix this problem, I have been trying to get my printer working again and I think this might give insight as to why my USB port for the printer is not working.
If I power down my printer my mouse locks up then if I turn the printer back on the mouse works again. Any ideas? Thanks.

USB mouse? PS/2?

PS2 mouse.
