ttyS0 permissions change

RedHat 7.1

I have some background cron jobs that run as userid nobody on regular intervals and use the modem (ttyS0). It has permissions 666 and is owned by root.root. From time to time, however, RH7.1 seems to change the permissions of ttyS0 to 660 so my scripts stop working.

Why is this happening? What is causing it? I can't find anything in /var/log/messages about why/how/when it happens. Thanks.

My mandrake system used to run a security check script from a cron job. It checked all kinds of things like world writeable files and other files and directory that shouldn't be open to the public. I assume Redhat would have something similar. Or it could also be somewhere in the boot scripts. If it changes everytime you boot then you should look around /etc/init.d. If it happens at a periodic interval then I'd definetly start looking through cron scripts. You could always go grepping around for ttyS0 in scripts.
