I have been using the live distro Knoppix 3.4. I like it so much I decided to install it on my hard drive. I use the command "knoppix-installer" and it directs me to step by step instructions to make partitions of my hard drive. When I proceed to make the partitions through knoppix, I get a blank screen with, "opend disk read-only -you have no permission to write", I then press enter and it takes me to another blank screen with"Fatal Error: Cannot read disk drive". I thought it was the because of the partitions from DOS, so I downloaded tha Partition Zapper and deleted all my partitions. I tried to install Knoppix 3.4 again, and recieve the same messages. What can I do?

did you sudo first, before you ran the installer?

i've been through this, and my advice is what the forum told me: try the debian installer, instead. it really worked well, and after setting up just a barebones "base" system, you can add anything you want with apt-get, aptitude, etc. keeping the bloat to a minimum. quite nice.
